Hello
Hey, guys, it's been a while since I have been on Deviant art but lately, I have been thinking about coming back and before you guys get ahead of yourselves I need to state some things.

I'm still thinking about it

  • I wanted to first state this because I don't know if I actually will come back yet but I do have some plans if I do.
  • I'm still not doing commissions I'm not on enough to do any right now and especially not for free.
  • I also was thinking of making some drawing videos these are much more for my endless rambling instead of high-quality art.
  • I'm also planning on doing more drawings and things in photoshop don't get me wrong pixel art was fun but I wasn't going to get a dime for doing it plus it didn't get me where I want to be artistical.

My current Plans

Currently, my plans are to return to deviant art and bring some new art for you guys and start a youtube channel based on that and possibly for Vr Chat. Which if I learn how to make models on the computer I will make some tutorials on those as well. I also plan on making a website on Wix so I will be able to post my art and videos and connect all my social media stuff into one hub for you guys to access.

P.S

Thank you guys for reading this all the way through especially those of you who have been following me for a while I would also really appreciate it if you guys follow me on my Twitter @PikePersons

Hey, guys, I'm sorry I haven't been posting much artwork lately I haven't really stopped doing it but I have been focusing on trying other things and learn different styles as much as pixel art was fun I got tired of it. I wanted to try to do something else, of course, this might be a big problem for people who liked my pixel work and stuff like that but I hope that you guys stick with me through this change and transition. I will probably be doing more traditional pieces or just digital photoshop work and also I wanted to say that I no longer am going to be doing any commissions of any kind because to be honest there were too few requested which is another reason why I want to try to change my art style. No, I'm not doing it for money but if there is no demand then there is no reason to make it especially if you are tired of doing it like me. Anyways I might be a little slow with coming out with pieces in the upcoming future because I will be working on making myself better at least hopefully XD. As for now thank you to anyone who has given me a commission so far as it was fun making them but as I said I will no longer be doing them.

Using reference

3 min read
Reference is highly important if you are going to be expanding your understanding of and how to properly draw things and it definitely is important when you're starting out and even more so later on. Originally I made it tough for myself by drawing straight from my head which isn't too bad if it is used in moderation but instead I did it all the time. By doing it all the time it made me struggle a lot when I started out I often made many more mistakes than I needed to if I just followed a reference. I know for some of you using reference seems out of the question because you feel like you are copying someone else's style and such and to be honest I had originally felt that way. So think of references this way if you have never looked at reference for something how do you know how it is supposed to look how can you draw a anime face if you never studied it have you looked at how the chin is rounded for females and more strait for males or how about how the shoulders look. If you drew straight from your mind without ever using some sort of reference then you would have no clue how to draw it properly. Instead, the best thing to do is copy it until you understand how to draw the proper styles you want and then cross the styles over that you like until you find what looks good and then you add your own personal touches to them that make them unique. Then once you have a good understanding how to make it you can manipulate it even more and more until eventually, you create your own style. Now you will hear a lot that you should draw only from life and such but I personally think this wrong especially if you are a cartoonist. The thing is cartoons are not from life, of course, there are things that you can take from life and apply to your cartoons and such but that doesn't tell you how to draw cartoons. For example anime, you can draw from life all you want but you would never be able to draw anime unless you looked at how to draw anime. Anime is a certain style of drawing and the only way to learn a style is by drawing from references and stuff. Of course, you have to look out for certain mistakes that the artist made to avoid learning any bad habits but if you're going draw something specific you should use reference of the thing you are drawing. Also I'm not saying don't draw from life as there are things from life that can help you learn how to draw better but I'm saying use the subject of what you want to draw, Also one last thing before I let you go is that to properly use reference it helps to look at parts of multiple sources of images so if you are going to draw legs for a character look at multiple pictures of legs. This helps you not copy someone work and also not make mistakes of the artists that your copying from. well anyways guys that's about it XD cya and I hope I helped
